Members of local community group the North Sydney Yarnachists have spent hundreds of hours knitting and crocheting so they can yarn-storm Brett Whiteley Place. Their stunning art installation, called Greensleaves, features native flora and a waterfall. It’s on display from 18 September to 15 October.

Check it out on Thursday 21 September (from 12pm to 1.30pm) and you’ll get to take home your own native plant – not made from yarn! – thanks to Council’s Bushcare team. Or visit on Monday 25 September (from 11.30am to 1.30pm) when the Daramalan College Band will be playing some lunchtime tunes.

The purpose of this creative project is to raise awareness about the lack of green space in urban and suburban areas. By increasing our parkland spaces and bushland reserves, we can play a role in mitigating the impact of high summer temperatures, as well as helping to reduce the increasing frequency of heat waves.

An abundance of public green space ensures everyone in the community gets to enjoy a quality lifestyle. This installation is intended to provoke conversations about how individuals, community groups and businesses can fill empty spaces with lush green foliage.

The North Sydney Yarnachists is a collective of members from Stanton Library’s Wrap With Love group.

This installation is brought to you by NTH SYD.
